I loved the whole experience.  Michan was likeable– then they were very patient when I had to postpone a couple of times– The crew who came (Trace, Dan & Brian) were great– fast, able, friendly– even did a little extra at one window where needed, to trim it out decently inside.  I’ll hire them again to install a door…

I needed to replace a 1970′s exterior French door (not really “French” at the time) with a new one in a bedroom. The salesman came out the month prior and looked over the situation and made suggestions plus explained how the work would be done. I already had in mind what I wanted so it was decided upon right there with his catalog: a Therma-Tru full glass door with all the hardware. The installers came out 5/25 and went to work. I wanted the storm door to be re-hung and that took the longest. Not only was the work well executed but I was hard-pressed to find even a glimmer of sawdust left behind. Perhaps Keystone is “priceier” than some but you get what you pay for (the price does not reflect sales tax.)

The installation was, well, that’s why I pay professionals to do things. Your guys were great. They arrived on-time and completed the project in what for me would be record time, but for them, I’m sure it’s all just a day’s work. Awesome work, by the way, they did a great job on the finish woodwork as well as the doors themselves.

The doors are wonderful. It is so nice not to have to kick the door to make it shut. I got a full light door in the kitchen and sometimes I think I’ve left the door open. haha, But boy, I sure appreciate the extra light. Actually, the same applies in the basement: although we only put in a 1/2 light, the additional light really is great.

The installation of the dog door was perfect!

Now, if I could just convince my dog that the doggy door is DOWNSTAIRS. I think she prefers to wait by the new door until I open it for her. She’s so smart! I think she thinks that as long as  I’m within “hailing” distance, I should open the door to let her in and out. If not, she’ll consent to reenter the house using the new basement door “like some sort of scullery maid, harumph!!!”.

I’ve already mentioned you to a friend who’s building a new house, but I don’t think anything will come of that since he’s using a building contractor, unless you’re already working the project.

In any case, thanks for the new doors!!! One more little project checked off the list.

The doors are excellent too, although Eric made a mistake while staining the front door and it’s all I can think about, although I know it is not noticeable to the vast majority of people. And no more chilly breezes through the house or rattling doors on windy nights! :] We have had to get used to not worrying about those things!

I also wanted to tell you how impressed we were with your workers, Marcelo and his colleague (didn’t catch his name). They paid careful excellent attention to every detail. Their pride in their work and their care and respect for our house was evident in every step they took. Kudos to them. They even left their working area cleaner than when they got here. Wow.

I wanted to tell you that you were absolutely right about your installers at Keystone.  They introduced themselves and Marcelo confirmed all of the project details with me to make sure things were correct.  There were some delays because my sheathing turned out to be basically non-existent (just sound-board) and Marcelo had to come up with a way of putting sheathing on to better protect against the weather around the windows.  He showed me the problem and told me what he wanted to do.  Most contractors would have probably just put paper over it, but he wanted to give me extra protection despite the fact that the rest of the house did not have wood sheathing.  It was a creative idea to rip the cripple studs slightly to make it fit properly.

The job was done with exceptional attention to detail and they persisted until things were just perfect.  I’ve never seen contractors tweak and redo steps until they got things just perfect.  Marcelo even disassembled, trimmed, and reassembled an entire wall build-up by himself after he found that the adjacent window and sill were about 3/16″ higher.   Honestly, I wouldn’t have noticed such a small detail as the only it could be seen was by sighting the line from the outside with your head against the siding, and likely would have been unnoticable after the trim went up.  I was extremely impressed as he and the crew treated the project as if they were working on their own homes.  They swept and cleaned up better than any other contractor I’ve had making sure to pick up every last scrap and thoroughly broomed the work area and then some.

Marcelo also made sure to explain each step in the process and pointed out any small imperfections such as a minor difference in the amount of visible frame inside the house due to the walls not being perfectly plumb.  Probably not noticable to anyone but him.  The whole crew worked in parallel instead of the usual milling around I see, and most of the time was spent waiting on materials.  It was also very obvious the crew enjoyed working together, which allowed them to hold each other to high standards. Thanks for running a contracting business that does what they say, on time, and does it well, and thanks to the crew for their exceptional work.  I know that when we’re ready to replace the rest of the windows in our home, we will want Keystone and Marcelo and his crew to do the job.

I have been meaning to write you for so long!  I want to write a glowing letter for your portfolio.  But for now, I must quickly say thanks and let you know how much the new windows (esp the bay in the front) have meant to all of us. This being our first winter with them, I expected the room to be warmer without drafts. Well, who knew that we would have two weeks of record breaking snow??  And through it  all, we were able to enjoy a true winter wonderland, draft free and with the benefit of light and an expansive view. “A couple years ago, we bought a home in Kirkland that we love. The biggest problem with the house was the 23 year-old ugly, single pane aluminum frame windows. At the end of 2003, we began interviewing window companies. The process was not easy, and we had a hard time believing we would get the windows we wanted.

In February 2004, I met Rob and Michan Rhodes, owners of Keystone Windows and Doors, Inc. I found their very professional Web site on the internet and I called to make an appointment for a free estimate.
